CARETAKER / HANDYMAN, Southampton, New York – $130k to $160k GPA

We are looking for an experienced caretaker/handyman for our UHNW client at their private estate in Southampton, NY. This is a fully staffed household, so the role would suit someone who is comfortable working as part of a wider team in a high standard, service driven environment.

This is a hands-on, practical role for someone who genuinely enjoys fixing, maintaining, and looking after a property. You will be the "eyes and ears" of the estate, spotting issues early, carrying out repairs yourself wherever possible, and making sure everything is always kept to a guest-ready standard.

Given the nature of the property, the client needs someone who lives locally and can respond quickly if something goes wrong outside of normal hours, whether that is a burst pipe, a heating issue, storm damage, or anything else that needs urgent attention. This is a key part of the role, so applicants must already be within a short commutable distance of Southampton and comfortable being contacted for occasional out of hours emergencies.

Working closely with the Facilities Director, you will take ownership of the day to day maintenance and presentation of the estate, including interiors, exteriors, and outdoor amenities, using your own hands-on skills to resolve issues directly rather than always relying on outside contractors.

Responsibilities:

  • Daily upkeep and general maintenance of interior and exterior areas

  • Hands-on repairs including carpentry, painting, minor demolition, and general handyman work

  • Basic level electrical, plumbing, and mechanical troubleshooting and maintenance

  • First point of call for emergency call outs and urgent issues, day or night

  • Exterior maintenance including power washing, gutter cleaning, and detailing

  • Grounds support including light landscaping and seasonal setup

  • Care and upkeep of outdoor amenities (pool surrounds, courts, outdoor kitchens, furniture)

  • Vendor coordination and on-site support for contractors when specialist work is needed

  • Monitoring work quality and reporting issues to Facilities leadership

  • Running errands, stocking supplies, and keeping properties guest-ready at all times

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Lives locally to Southampton and can genuinely respond quickly in an emergency

  • Has previous residential caretaking, estate maintenance, or trade experience

  • Is a confident, capable handyman with practical fix-it skills across multiple trades

  • Has a solid working knowledge of home systems

  • Is detail-oriented, proactive, and self-motivated

  • Takes pride in high standards and presentation

  • Is comfortable in a physically active, hands-on role

  • Has a professional, service-minded approach

  • Is looking to settle into a long-term position

  • Speaks and writes fluent English

  • Has a valid driver's license and reliable transportation
