Carer / Companion, 1 week on/ 1 week off, Newmarket, £50k - £60k GPA,

We are looking for a warm, kind and experienced 7 days on/ off live in  Carer / Companion to support an elderly gentleman living in his own home in Newmarket.

The gentleman has mid-stage dementia but retains good general mobility and independence. He enjoys sport, spending time with his dogs and getting out for short walks. The family is looking for someone who can offer companionship, structure and reassurance, while encouraging him to remain as independent and active as possible.

This is very much a companionship-led role at present, rather than a heavily clinical care position. However, the family would like someone experienced in dementia care who is comfortable adapting their support as his needs develop over time.

The Role
The Carer will provide a reassuring and consistent presence throughout the day, helping to establish a positive routine and supporting with everyday tasks where needed.

Responsibilities will include:
* Supporting with morning and bedtime routines
* Assistance with dressing
* Providing companionship and general day-to-day support
* Encouraging regular activity, short walks and time outdoors
* Providing appropriate supervision and reassurance around his dementia
* Overnight presence; he generally sleeps well once settled, although he has occasionally woken during the night
* Being proactive and happy to muck in with light household tasks where helpful, although a cleaner is already employed
* Occasional assistance with meals if required

Personal care, toileting support and medication management are not currently required, although the family would like someone comfortable taking on additional support in these areas should his needs change in the future.

Household
The gentleman lives in a four-bedroom home with his wife and two dogs. Family members live nearby and are very involved, so the Carer will have good family support around them.
Private live-in accommodation will be provided.
A driving licence is preferred, and a car is available at the property for use while working.

Candidate
The ideal candidate will be a genuinely warm, patient and caring person with previous dementia care experience. Someone personable and engaging who understands how to support an individual with dementia without unnecessarily taking away their independence would be a great fit.

The family is particularly looking for someone who is:
* Experienced in dementia care
* Warm, kind, patient and naturally helpful
* Confident establishing routine and providing gentle structure
* Good company and able to build a genuine rapport
* Proactive and happy to help where needed
* Comfortable around dogs
* Flexible as the gentleman’s needs evolve
* Driver preferred but not essential

Nursing qualifications are not considered necessary for the role at this stage.

Schedule: 24-hour care is required across seven days. The family is open to recommendations regarding the most practical rota structure, including appropriate time off and cover.
Salary: £50,000–£60,000 gross per annum, depending on experience and the agreed working structure.
